DIY Wood Rocket Stove




Wood rocket stoves are very easy to make, you just drill 2 holes that connect inside the log. You can cook on this wood rocket stove or just warm your hands. It shoots a steady flame out the hole inside the log. 


I used an impact driver with a 1" spade bit because that was what we had on hand. Standard spade bits are 6" long so I had to use a 12" bit extender from Dewalt so I could drill deeper holes.  An 1.5" auger bit would probably work better, but they cost a lot more than spade bits.

I drew the diagram below to show you how to drill the holes to make a wood rocket stove. Make sure the two holes meet so air can flow through. I like to use a flashlight to tell if the two holes connected. If the the holes don't meet, just drill another hole in the side. 
A rocket stove works by drawing in large amounts of air in through the lower hole due to the chimney effect. Hot air rises out of the top hole while pulling fresh air through the lower hole. Rocket stoves are very efficient because they concentrate the heat.
